About the funder

The Senate Department for Culture and Europe is the highest state authority of the State of Berlin and is responsible for cultural policy, monument protection, and European political cooperation. It promotes the diverse cultural landscape, strengthens social cohesion, volunteerism, interreligious dialogue, and freedom of religion. With a wide range of funding programs, it supports artists and cultural practitioners across all disciplines, cultural institutions, civil society initiatives, and religious communities to enable cultural participation, democracy, and equal opportunities regardless of origin, gender, religion, or disability. At the same time, it sets impulses for the international networking of Berlin as a European cultural center.

Mission & Vision

The Senate Department for Culture and Europe is committed to strengthening culture as a unifying element in a diverse society. It promotes artistic freedom and independence from the state, ensures transparent and fair allocation procedures, and creates the framework conditions for outstanding cultural projects. Its goal is to foster cultural participation and democratic engagement, support interreligious dialogue, and further develop Berlin as a vibrant, open-minded, and European cultural center.

Target groups

The funding opportunities are aimed at Berlin-based artists, independent groups and collectives, as well as project initiatives across all artistic disciplines. In addition, museums, theaters, libraries, archives, youth art schools, and religious educational institutions benefit from the funding programs. Also addressed are civil society organizations and volunteers engaged in the fields of civic engagement and democracy promotion, as well as religious communities and worldview associations that strengthen interreligious dialogue and social cohesion.
