About the funder
The Siebenbürgisch-Sächsische Stiftung was founded on August 31, 1979, in Munich and is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Transylvanian Saxon cultural heritage. It restores and maintains historic fortified churches and cultural assets in Transylvania, supports Transylvanian Saxon students and young scholars through scholarships and the Ernst Habermann Prize, assists socially disadvantaged compatriots and nursing homes in Romania, finances and publishes homeland books and monographs, issues its own series of publications, and organizes cultural events, exhibitions, and special projects such as the International Carl Filtsch Competition.

"We want to remain what we are." This guiding principle has shaped the foundation since its inception. It is committed to preserving the ethnic identity and cultural traditions of the Transylvanian Saxon community, promotes international cooperation, and supports the remaining members in Romania in building and maintaining their cultural and social living environment.

The funding programs of the Siebenbürgisch-Sächsische Stiftung are aimed at Transylvanian Saxons in Romania who are dedicated to the preservation of fortified churches, cultural assets, and traditions; at students, young scholars, and artists with a thematic connection to Transylvanian Saxon history and culture; at cultural institutions and associations implementing exhibitions, publications, or research projects; as well as at social institutions in Transylvania, particularly nursing homes and individuals in need.
