About the funder
The Darmstadt Sports Foundation is a non-profit foundation in the form of a registered association (“Sportstiftung für die Stadt Darmstadt und den Landkreis Darmstadt-Dieburg e.V.”), founded on October 6, 1982. Its purpose is to support hardship cases in sports and to promote youth development projects in clubs and schools. With over 300 members from sports clubs, municipalities, and private individuals, the foundation has capital of nearly half a million euros and can distribute up to 25,000 euros annually. The funding priorities include special projects in youth club work, cooperation between schools and sports clubs, senior sports, informational events (lectures, panel discussions, training courses), innovative “sports for all” events, school-related sports projects, performance-oriented model funding for children and adolescents, as well as initiatives in the areas of inclusion and migration. Additionally, the foundation regularly awards the Youth Promotion Prize (up to 4,000 euros) and, since 1999, the Siegfried Schmitt Prize for child-appropriate training.
