Private foundation

About the funder

The Stefan Morsch Foundation, based in Birkenfeld (Rhineland-Palatinate), is Germany’s oldest stem cell donor registry and was founded in 1986 by Hiltrud and Emil Morsch. It is named after Stefan Morsch, the first European to receive an allogeneic stem cell transplant. The non-profit foundation maintains an HLA database, offers free typing for individuals up to 40 years old, operates its own HLA laboratory, and searches worldwide for suitable stem cell donors for patients with blood cancer. Additionally, it provides counseling to affected individuals before, during, and after transplantation, grants emergency financial assistance to cover incurred costs, supports research projects, and aids in establishing transplantation clinics. All activities are made possible through donations, partnerships, and volunteer commitment.

Mission & Vision

Our mission is to be a reliable support for people with leukemia and other blood cancers as well as their relatives, while simultaneously offering potential lifesavers an easy way to get involved. We connect those affected with willing donors to increase the chances of cure through suitable stem cell donors, prevent emergencies, and sustainably promote research against blood cancer.

Target groups

The foundation is aimed, on the one hand, at patients with leukemia and tumor diseases and their relatives who require support in finding a suitable stem cell donor, assistance during the transplantation process, as well as financial relief. On the other hand, it addresses healthy adults, especially up to 40 years of age, who are willing to be typed and registered as potential stem cell donors.
