About the funder

The Stiftung der Hamburger Presse is a non-profit foundation under civil law, founded in 1953, with the purpose of supporting young journalists in the fields of print and electronic media. It is financed exclusively through donations and the proceeds from the annual Hamburger Presseball. Since its inception, the foundation has distributed over 1.3 million euros to institutions promoting journalistic talent development and social emergency aid. In addition to supporting education, it is socially committed to journalists and their families in need. The foundation is also the organizer of the Hamburger Presseball, whose raffle proceeds constitute a significant source of funding.

Mission & Vision

The Stiftung der Hamburger Presse is committed to securing and promoting quality standards in journalism. Its goal is to strengthen the next generation of journalists in Hamburg through high-quality training and continuing education programs and to responsibly protect and promote press freedom as a fundamental asset of our democracy. At the same time, it assumes social responsibility for colleagues in need.

Target groups

The foundation's funding programs are primarily aimed at young journalists and journalistic training institutions in Hamburg. In addition, the foundation provides financial assistance and one-time grants to journalists in distress and their families.
