Mission & Vision
Our mission is to acknowledge the material and immaterial consequences of political persecution in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and to sustainably improve the living conditions of those affected and their survivors through individual discretionary benefits. We provide targeted financial assistance and rehabilitative measures, promote social integration, and uphold the dignity of the politically persecuted. Participatory decision-making processes involving those affected ensure a well-founded assessment of individual cases.
Target groups
Eligible to apply are former political prisoners in the territory of the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ)/GDR and persons rehabilitated in accordance with the StrRehaG, German nationals who were imprisoned for political reasons outside the SBZ/GDR (certificate pursuant to § 10 para. 4 HHG), as well as close relatives (spouses, children, parents) of formerly politically persecuted persons, provided they are economically disadvantaged. Since July 2025, politically persecuted persons residing outside the eastern German states and their dependents in need of support who have fallen into particular economic hardship are also eligible for funding.
