The Foundation for Church Buildings in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg – Church Building Foundation is a legally recognized ecclesiastical foundation under civil law, based in Oldenburg. It was endowed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg with an initial capital of 2.5 million DM and pursues exclusively charitable, benevolent, and ecclesiastical purposes. Its foundation purpose includes the maintenance, upkeep, alteration, and new construction of church buildings (including altars, pulpits, baptismal fonts, organs, and bells) as well as the preservation and care of church and cemetery grounds and their gravesites. The funds primarily come from the income generated by the foundation’s assets as well as from earmarked donations and endowments.

The Church Building Foundation is committed to preserving, maintaining, and developing the cultural and social heritage of the Oldenburg church landscape with a future-oriented approach. It enables church congregations to realize monument-appropriate restorations and contemporary sacred art projects through financial grants, thereby keeping community and cultural spaces vibrant.

The target group for funding consists of church congregations, ecclesiastical organizations, and church construction or art departments within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg. Projects involving church and chapel buildings as well as their surroundings are supported, provided they are planned in coordination with the Higher Church Council and the construction department and serve the statutory preservation or new construction measures.
