The Stiftung Hamburger Institut für Sozialforschung (HIS) is an operational foundation under civil law based in Hamburg. Founded in 1984 by Jan Philipp Reemtsma, the institute aims to fund and conduct scientific research projects in the field of historically informed social sciences, as well as to organize conferences and workshops. The HIS has a publicly accessible library and a unique archive with focuses including protest research. Mission & Vision

The Stiftung Hamburger Institut für Sozialforschung is committed to excellent, interdisciplinary research in the field of historical and social scientific analysis of societal phenomena.
