Stiftung Thüringer Sporthilfe

Public foundation

About the funder

The Stiftung Thüringer Sporthilfe was founded in 1997 and has since supported particularly talented junior and elite athletes on their path from "talent to Olympic champion/world champion." It primarily promotes athletes from Thuringia who compete for a Thuringian sports club in an Olympic or Paralympic discipline. From the outset, disability sports have been fully and equally integrated. The foundation sees itself as a service provider for athletes and cooperates closely with the Thuringian Olympic Training Center, the Thuringian State Sports Association, the state and elite sports federations, as well as other partners. To date, it has supported over 50 athletes with more than €750,000 and nearly 3,900 junior athletes with a total of approximately €1.72 million.

Mission & Vision

The Thüringer Sporthilfe Foundation aims to support Thuringian talents in Olympic and Paralympic elite sports both ideologically and materially. It strengthens athletes through performance-based financial assistance, creates optimal conditions in close coordination with all stakeholders in the Thuringian elite sports system, and thereby promotes the sustainable development of top-level sports in Thuringia.

Target groups

Thuringian athletes of all age groups who are eligible to compete in Olympic or Paralympic disciplines and are members of a Thuringian sports club are supported. The performance criterion is central: talent promotion from 3rd place at German youth or junior championships or participation in junior world/European championships, follow-up squad support for athletes transitioning to elite sports, as well as support groups for targeted preparation for the Olympic Games and Paralympics. Additionally, coaches in youth elite sports, social hardship cases, study support, and loss of earnings are supported.
