About the funder
The von Opel Hessian Zoo Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law and the operator of the OPEL-ZOO "Georg von Opel – Open Enclosure for Animal Research" in Kronberg im Taunus. With around 1,700 animals from over 200 species on 27 hectares of grounds, the zoo features naturalistic enclosures that combine research, species conservation, education, and recreation. In close cooperation with universities and nature conservation organizations, the foundation promotes scientific research projects, supports international species conservation programs, and provides zoo education for visitors of all ages.

Mission & Vision
The von Opel Hessische Zoostiftung is committed to the preservation of biological diversity and the advancement of zoological gardens. Its goal is to promote scientific research involving animals, to conserve endangered species through protective measures and project funding, and to raise visitor awareness of the importance of animal and nature conservation through educational programs and naturalistic animal presentations.
Target groups
The foundation's funding activities are aimed at universities and research institutions conducting animal and species conservation studies, zoological gardens and zoo education projects both domestically and abroad, nature conservation organizations and local communities in the native regions of endangered species, as well as projects to reduce human-animal conflict and to sustainably preserve habitats.
