About the funder

The Walter Behrens Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law based in Hanover. It was established in 1998 following the death of the founder Walter Behrens, who contributed his entire estate and real estate to the foundation. The purpose of the foundation is the direct support of children with multiple disabilities, particularly those who are spastically paralyzed and blind. The foundation focuses on individual support to specifically fulfill the wishes and needs of families and children who have been rejected by public institutions. Due to its lean, volunteer-run organizational structure (board and advisory board), the available funds flow almost entirely into the foundation's purpose.

Mission & Vision

The Walter Behrens Foundation aims to improve the living conditions of children with severe disabilities by directly and unbureaucratically fulfilling individual support requests. It sees itself as a supportive entity that steps in where public services are insufficient, thereby opening up new perspectives for children and their families.

Target groups

Individual children residing in Lower Saxony, under the age of 15, and suffering from multiple disabilities, spastic paralysis, or blindness are supported. The foundation targets families who require special mobility aids, disability-accessible home modifications, or measures to improve quality of life and do not receive public funding for these needs.
