About the funder
The Wulf Vater Foundation is a trust foundation under the umbrella of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, based in Mainz. It was established on July 15, 1996, by Dr. med. Wulf Vater (1917–2007), a German pharmacologist and co-developer of the heart medication Nifedipine. The foundation supports basic research on dihydropyridines and their therapeutic applications. Notable programs: Wulf Vater Dihydropyridine Research Award (annually up to 25,000 euros for outstanding achievements in receptor and ion channel research in the German-speaking region).

Mission & Vision
Promotion of basic research on dihydropyridines and their therapeutic application, particularly for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of receptor research including ion channel research, which have significantly contributed to the understanding of cellular signaling mechanisms and their therapeutic relevance.
Target groups
Independent researchers in the German-speaking region who have made outstanding contributions in the past five years to basic research, clinical studies, or practical applications of dihydropyridines. Applications may be submitted from the fields of human medicine, health sciences, biology, and chemistry.
