Departure funding for the Salzburg Festival

The “Operating Deficit Coverage for the Salzburg Festival” supports the operational security of the Festival Fund by having the federal government, together with the State of Salzburg, the City of Salzburg, and the Salzburg Tourism Promotion Fund, each contribute 40% to cover any operating deficits. As a continuously available public grant, this instrument is aimed at the Board of Trustees of the Festival Fund and the involved regional and municipal authorities. The funding rate of 40% on verified operating deficits is granted based on the approved annual budget or the determined deficits. The measure is categorized under the fields of Culture and Culture & Media and has been available without limitation since January 1, 2013; applications can be submitted at any time.

A prerequisite for approval is the formal determination of advances or the actual operating deficit by the Board of Trustees of the Salzburg Festival Fund. Thus, the funding contributes to the sustainable safeguarding of one of Europe’s most significant art and cultural venues and ensures stable framework conditions for the organization and execution of the Salzburg Festival. The financial provision of this instrument makes a substantial contribution to the long-term anchoring of contemporary art in societal discourse and strengthens the governance structures of public cultural institutions in the Salzburg and Vienna regions.
