Academy Fellowship: High-Level Brain Circulation Worldwide

Academy Fellowship: High level brain circulation worldwide promotes the global exchange of distinguished scientists and enables a twelve-month research stay at an institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) in Austria. The aim is to intensify international collaboration and develop innovative research approaches across all disciplines. The fellowship is aimed at established researchers who wish to explore new ideas during their sabbatical and further develop them together with the experts of the ÖAW institutes. Through this temporary exchange, networks are built and interdisciplinary projects initiated, which contribute to the long-term strengthening of the Austrian scientific location. The ÖAW provides a platform that unites excellent research in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences and sustainably promotes international cooperation.

The program provides a monthly allowance of €5,000, supplemented by one-time travel grants of €2,000 as well as up to €10,000 for workshops, outreach, and networking activities. Eligible expenses include allowances, travel costs, and costs for international events that serve the dissemination of scientific knowledge and the establishment of global collaborations. Selection is made in coordination with the directors of the selected ÖAW institutes. Applicants should already have a well-established scientific profile and actively engage in the research activities of the ÖAW institutes. Close collaboration creates space for intercultural dialogue and the realization of visionary projects that have a visible impact both nationally and internationally.
