Description

The funding call “Advancing European Climate Risk Assessments” (EUCRA) offers companies, research and educational institutions, non-profit organizations, private individuals, as well as public and governmental bodies in EU member states and associated countries the opportunity to contribute their expertise in interdisciplinary climate resilience research. Within 24 months, highly precise tools for climate risk assessment are to be developed and implemented to effectively support the advancement of the EU Climate Risk Assessments (EUCRA). Grants ranging from €4 to 5 million per project (100% funding rate) are available for implementation. Eligible costs include personnel, material, and travel expenses as well as subcontractor services; ineligible costs comprise real estate acquisitions, debt repayment, and retrospective expenses. Complete applications can be submitted via the Funding & Tenders Portal until April 15, 2026. Evaluation criteria include the excellence of the research approach, impact on EU climate adaptation, and the quality and efficiency of project execution.

Scientists from climate and environmental research as well as decision-makers in administration and politics particularly benefit from tailored funding conditions: in addition to admissibility and compliance with Horizon Europe criteria, the application must include a sophisticated concept for the exploitation and dissemination of results. Projects should address systemic risk aspects, interactive systems, and regional case studies, utilize digital technologies such as AI/ML, and ensure strong networking with existing initiatives, for example Destination Earth. A participatory market and user survey, clear governance structures, and a gender equality plan further enhance the practical relevance and societal acceptance of the research outcomes. Innovation-validated tools are intended to empower policymakers and administrators to effectively implement climate adaptation strategies at both EU and national levels.
