Description

Agri-environmental and Climate Measures (AUKM) promote environmentally, climate- and nature-friendly management of agricultural land in Bremen, Hamburg, and Lower Saxony. SMEs, private individuals, public institutions, or non-profit organizations with arable or grassland areas in these federal states can receive a subsidy of up to 100% of eligible expenses for a period of up to seven years. The premiums vary depending on the measure between approximately €300 and €2,500 per hectare. Examples of supported measures include organic farming with basic and additional water protection subsidies (€548–1,546/ha), extensive cereal cultivation with undersowing or skylark plots (€627/ha plus up to €340 surcharge), establishment of flowering and protective strips (€1,088/ha) or hedges (€12,068/ha), environmentally friendly grassland conversion and peatland protection (up to €2,569/ha), as well as special measures to protect wild plants, common hamsters, red kites, or Nordic migratory birds. All funding measures require a voluntary commitment to comply with EU conditionality and minimum requirements (fertilization, plant protection, record-keeping). Applications can be submitted continuously via the electronic collective application system ANDI.

The selection follows strictly defined criteria: protected areas, drinking water catchment areas, or slopes. Funding-specific records and certificates of seed origin ensure verifiability. Funding applies to new or follow-up applications with remaining terms from a minimum area of 0.25 ha (depending on the measure) up to a maximum of 100 ha. Combining various agri-environmental measures is possible but is managed through prioritized funding levels and reductions to avoid double funding. The goal is to strengthen biodiversity, climate and water protection, as well as the sustainable development of rural areas.
