Action BAT-FRIENDLY

The nationwide campaign BAT-FRIENDLY by the Bat Foundation honors private individuals, companies, public institutions, and educational establishments for the preservation or creation of bat roosts. Participants either renovate existing roosting opportunities during construction measures or create new retreat spaces for bats on buildings and properties. As recognition, they receive a certificate signed by Environment Minister Kummer as well as a decorative plaque that can be visibly affixed to the house or garden gate. In this way, not only is the commitment to bat conservation acknowledged, but the public is also sensitized to climate and nature conservation-related aspects. The campaign has been running since 1999 under the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and has been coordinated by the Bat Foundation since 2014.

Applications can be submitted at any time; the prerequisite is proof of an existing or newly created roosting opportunity through photographs. The evaluation particularly considers the sustainability and effectiveness of the measures as well as the creativity in designing bat-friendly retreat spaces. A completed application form along with meaningful photographic documentation form the basis for selection. The ongoing funding opportunities are aimed at all who wish to actively contribute to species protection and provide an ideal platform to showcase exemplary projects.
