Description
The Sustainable Development Initiative – Local Agenda 21 supports actors from municipalities, associations, educational institutions, and civil society initiatives in Brandenburg in implementing environmental, climate, and sustainability projects locally. As an ongoing grant program, applications can be submitted at any time, with fixed deadlines on 03.03.2026 and 05.05.2026. Projects are funded that demonstrably relate to the local Agenda 21 goals and are implemented at a location within the state of Brandenburg. The funding areas range from environmental and nature conservation to education for sustainable development, energy efficiency, regional development, work, and social engagement. Project ideas are evaluated based on their relevance to the local Agenda 21 goals, sustainability aspects, and the quality of the implementation concept.
The program is managed by agrathaer GmbH, based in Müncheberg, which brings extensive scientific, economic, and socioeconomic expertise through collaboration with the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF). The funding originates from the lottery concession fees of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, and Climate Protection of the state of Brandenburg. Decision dates take place approximately ten days after the respective submission deadlines. With average funding amounts of around €3,000 in the “Local Agenda 21” subprogram in 2025 and an approval rate of 67%, the program offers attractive support for sustainable and community-building projects at the municipal level.
