Description

Since 2009, the Aletta Haniel Program has been supporting disadvantaged youth from the Aletta-Haniel Comprehensive School in Duisburg over a period of three years on their path to a successful school graduation, internships, and sustainable vocational training. As part of the Haniel Foundation’s funding initiative "Education as an Opportunity," the program targets students from the 8th grade onwards whose graduation is at risk—regardless of social background. Through a modular offering consisting of remedial lessons, individual learning support, parental involvement, and career orientation measures, competencies are strengthened, grade averages improved, and participants are prepared for internships and training positions in the region. Educational professionals as well as local partners such as the Duisburg Municipal Integration Center assist in discovering talents and developing them purposefully.

The long-term goal is to sustainably improve the educational and future prospects of the youth and to ensure a successful transition into the labor market. Thanks to the commitment of additional funding partners such as the Welker Foundation, participants also benefit from value-oriented workshops to promote social and intercultural skills. With a proven graduation rate of 100% and numerous positive model transfers to other educational and social institutions, the Aletta Haniel Program has established itself as a pioneering support instrument in North Rhine-Westphalia. Thus, it not only contributes to the individual development of the youth but also makes an important contribution to securing skilled labor and social cohesion in the Ruhr area.
