Description

The nationwide initiative “all right! – Human Rights in Care” by the Josef and Luise Kraft Foundation focuses on respecting the dignity, rights, and participation of elderly people in residential care facilities in Germany. In collaborative exchange with nursing professionals, management personnel, and decision-makers, internationally recognized human rights and the 2005 Care Charter adopted by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth serve as established guidance. The initiative informs and raises awareness about key dimensions of dignified care – from self-determination and privacy to palliative support. Practical commentaries complement comprehensive findings from a Forsa study that examined the awareness and application of the Care Charter as well as expectations regarding framework conditions and work organization in 200 residential facilities. It was revealed that less than half of the staff actively use the available instruments, and many professionals call for better staffing levels and stronger communication between management and caregivers.

The aim of the sponsorship measure is to jointly develop practical solutions for dignified care and to permanently anchor their implementation in everyday care practice. Applications for participation are possible at any time; public institutions and non-profit organizations can apply continuously. By providing platforms for dialogue, working materials, and training opportunities, the initiative promotes a solution-oriented dialogue about the fundamental rights of people in need of care while simultaneously strengthening the working conditions of caregivers. The program thus makes a sustainable contribution to a responsible and human rights-based care culture throughout Germany.
