Description

The Ground Power Directive of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) supports the nationwide deployment of alternative ground-based power supply technologies at civil airports. Funding is provided for the acquisition and installation of ground power supply systems as well as associated planning and approval costs and structural infrastructure measures. The goal is to reduce CO₂ emissions and sustainably modernize airport operations. Eligible applicants are companies and public institutions that operate a civil airport and meet the technical requirements of the Federal Agency for Administrative Services (BAV). Continuous submission of funding applications is possible until the budget funds are exhausted.

For the application, a project description, a cost and financing plan, proof of airport operation, and technical concept documents are required. The funding decision is based on the technical feasibility, environmental effectiveness, and economic efficiency of the planned project. Operating costs as well as research and development expenses outside the installation are not eligible for funding. The grant competition aims to motivate operators of ground-based power supply systems to invest in low-emission technologies and to make air traffic climate-friendly. Processing and approval are carried out by the BAV as the responsible processing authority.
