Description

Since 2020, the Freundeskreis Künstlernachlässe Mannheim e. V. has been offering a work scholarship for students of art history. Within the framework of this funding, two theses (bachelor’s or master’s) are supported annually, which engage intensively with the holdings of the Mannheim artists’ estates. The aim is to stimulate scholarly research on artists or topics related to the collection and thus advance the study of regional art history. The form of support is a financial grant that enables participants to utilize resources such as archival materials and specialist literature and to undertake research stays. Applications are submitted via email with a detailed description of the topic and proof of enrollment in the field of art history.

The call is addressed to enrolled art history students who wish to write their thesis in close connection with the estates of Mannheim artists. Topics range from catalogues raisonnés and biographical studies to art historical analyses of selected holdings. The funding criteria include a clear research question, precise methodology, and a convincing relevance of the work for science and culture. Since submissions are possible at any time, applications can be submitted flexibly. This continuous awarding of work scholarships strengthens the promotion of young scholars in the field of art history and creates new perspectives for the exploration and presentation of cultural assets in Baden-Württemberg.
