Description
The funding program Emission-Free Buses and Infrastructure (EBIN) sets a decisive lever for the transport transition in Vienna. The goal is to accelerate the switch to climate-neutral propulsion technologies in public local passenger transport and thereby make a significant contribution to climate protection. By expanding charging and hydrogen refueling infrastructure, emission-free buses become practical for everyday use and attractive. The initiative supports sustainability goals at the municipal and regional levels, promotes smart city concepts, and contributes to air quality improvement and noise reduction. Up to 32 million euros per project are available for investments in non-fossil propulsion systems.
Eligible applicants include companies of all sizes, infrastructure operators, private individuals, as well as public institutions that, as economic owners, convert bus fleets to battery or fuel cell operation and establish the associated infrastructure. Funding is provided both for the acquisition of emission-free buses and for the construction of charging and hydrogen refueling stations. Consortia may also submit joint project applications. Applications are submitted electronically via the eCall portal, with an online cost plan and the financial statements of the last two fiscal years to be provided. Projects meeting all formal funding requirements can be submitted until 31.12.2026. EBIN thus creates a reliable financial framework to advance fleet conversion, expand regional mobility offerings, and realize the vision of climate-neutral mobility in Vienna.
