Description
The federal funding initiative "Repair Bonus" of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism supports the sustainable repair of electrical and electronic devices as well as bicycles in private households. With a subsidy covering 50 percent of the eligible gross costs – up to a maximum of 200 euros per repair or 30 euros per cost estimate – labor including travel and shipping costs, material expenses, and costs for cost estimates are funded. The program is financed through the Austrian Recovery and Resilience Plan 2022–2026 and NextGenerationEU funds. The goal is to extend product lifecycles, strengthen the circular economy, and reduce electronic waste generation while simultaneously promoting energy efficiency and climate protection.
Private individuals residing in Austria who own their devices have been able to apply for the digital repair voucher continuously since the start of the funding period on April 1, 2022, via the online portal. The voucher can be redeemed at participating partner businesses, whose list is available on the portal. Funding requirements include Austrian residency, ownership of the devices, and redemption of the repair voucher at a registered business. Applications are processed in the order of receipt; upon presentation of the voucher and full payment of the invoice, the subsidy is transferred directly to the specified bank account. Through this simple procedure, the Repair Bonus directly contributes to resource conservation, strengthening the regional repair economy, and active environmental commitment.
