Description
The Arnold Rikli Promotion Award of the Jörg Wolff Foundation honors outstanding research achievements in the field of photobiology and awards young scientists up to 35 years of age with a one-time sum of €5,000. Embedded within European research funding programs, this award supports individuals who distinguish themselves through innovative approaches in the areas of research & innovation, science, health, as well as labor & social affairs. The complementary prize supplements the established Arnold Rikli Prize and was first awarded in 2016, followed by a second call in 2018. Applicants from all EU member states are invited to submit their outstanding manuscripts or projects to further advance the effectiveness of natural and artificially generated optical radiation on biological systems.
Aiming to promote early-career scientists in the photobiological sector, the promotion award particularly honors novel research concepts that promise translational benefits for health and medicine. Previous awardees have, for example, worked on light-based therapies to combat cancer stem cells or the regulation of UV-induced pigmentation by keratinocytes. The call is issued irregularly, with specific deadlines announced in due time on the Jörg Wolff Foundation’s website. Interested early-career researchers thus have the opportunity to present their work within a renowned network and, with financial support, provide important impetus for the further development of photobiological methods.
