Description
Ready, Set, Backpack, Go! is a program by the BroSis Rebecca Klausmeier Foundation gGmbH that aims to provide children from socially disadvantaged families in North Rhine-Westphalia with material equality at the start of school. Educational institutions, non-profit, and public organizations can apply at any time to equip first graders with a school backpack, a filled school cone, and additional school supplies. The funding is provided as a 100% grant and covers the initial purchase of the backpack, school cone, and useful items. The process is handled anonymously through participating daycares or social agencies, which verify the need in advance and submit the fully completed application. There is no deadline; funding applications are continuously reviewed and approved as long as funds are available. Selection is based on the criteria of family need and referral by the institution.
This initiative promotes equal opportunities by enabling first graders to start school confidently regardless of their social background. The coordinating institutions select suitable backpacks from prepared model lists and receive a fully equipped set along with the school cones, which includes writing and drawing supplies as well as playful elements. The foundation acts as an invisible sponsor to avoid stigmatization and protect the families' privacy. Interested institutions should submit their applications and proof of need directly to the BroSis Rebecca Klausmeier Foundation gGmbH to ensure children have an equal start to school life.
