Description
The August Hoff Scholarship for Art Historical Research of the LETTER Foundation honors the life's work of Prof. Dr. August Hoff and focuses on previously little-noticed protagonists and contexts in art history. The funding objective is the temporary support of scholarly studies and publications on sculpture (circa 1780–1930) as well as printmaking (circa 1875–1930). In addition to the classic scholarship funding, the final work can also be awarded as the August Hoff Prize within the LETTER Publications series. The foundation grants funding for research projects and publication costs over a period of up to twelve months to support projects through to publication readiness. Particular consideration is given to the alignment with the LETTER Foundation’s collection focus as well as the scientific quality of the submission.
Prospective art historians and academic researchers from Germany may apply informally at any time with a project proposal. A prerequisite is a research project that deals with little-studied artists and art historical issues and has a clear connection to the foundation’s collection themes. There is no legal entitlement to funding; allocation is at the discretion of the board and may be awarded irregularly and concurrently to multiple scholarship holders. The straightforward application procedure offers interested parties the opportunity to develop innovative art historical perspectives and to publish their results sustainably.
