August Schärttner Prize of the Sparkassen Sports Foundation Main-Kinzig

The August-Schärttner Prize honors outstanding volunteer work in sports clubs of the Main-Kinzig district in Hesse. As an ongoing sponsorship initiative in the field of Sports, Culture & Media, this award annually recognizes the tireless efforts of volunteer instructors and coaches. Its aim is to highlight social, political, and humanitarian commitment in sports and to enhance the appeal of volunteer work. During a ceremonial event, the awardees receive a certificate and a cash prize of €1,500. The continuous awarding without a fixed deadline ensures timely recognition of special merits and motivates further charitable engagement.

Eligible for funding are private individuals who are members of the Hesse State Sports Association and serve as instructors or coaches in a sports club within the Main-Kinzig sports district. The funding requirements include, besides membership, outstanding achievements in volunteer work and commitment to the social, political, and humanitarian ideals of sport. The evaluation criteria focus on exceptional dedication, sustainable team development, and inclusive training concepts. A committee composed of the board, advisory board, and council decides by majority vote on the award, in agreement with the home clubs. The award ceremony takes place in a formal setting, is conducted by the chairman of the Sparkassen Sports Foundation Main-Kinzig, and provides the recipients with a platform for networking within the regional sports community. It is intended to serve as an impetus to strengthen volunteerism.
