Awards - State Cultural Prize

The Burgenland State Culture Prize honors outstanding achievements every three years in the fields of literature and journalism, music, visual arts and photography, performing arts, film and video, adult education and folk culture, as well as science. Established for the first time in 2014, the award aims to emphasize Burgenland’s role as a vibrant center for culture, research, and adult education. The prize recognizes projects and works that, through their artistic, scientific, or educational significance, have a lasting impact on the cultural life of the region. Experts from the respective fields propose suitable candidates whose achievements are reviewed and awarded by an independent jury.

Eligible for funding are private individuals residing in or demonstrably connected to Burgenland, who establish a special link to the region through their activities. The program primarily addresses creative professionals, scientists, and initiators of educational offerings who shape the cultural profile of the federal state. The award not only honors individual accomplishments but also provides an impetus for future initiatives. In addition to artistic excellence, the jury evaluates the sustainable impact of the projects on the Burgenland community. Thus, the funding contributes in the long term to strengthening regional identity and fostering networking among cultural creators and scientists.
