Description

In Salzburg, the state supports the supra-regional concerns of the special rescue service through a lump-sum contribution per inhabitant: this is allocated to recognized mountain rescue, water rescue, and cave rescue organizations that are eligible for funding in accordance with § 4 para. 4 of the Salzburg Rescue Act (LGBl 78/1981 as amended). The annual contribution amount is determined by the state government by ordinance, taking into account index-based adjustments. The aim of this measure is to ensure the operational readiness and efficiency of the rescue organizations in alpine hazard and rescue situations, in order to comprehensively cover previously unaddressed hazard areas in the state of Salzburg and to guarantee prompt assistance to residents and guests.

The funding is granted in the form of a direct subsidy and paid out in two equal installments on April 1 and October 1. A prerequisite for payment is the applicable legal entitlement pursuant to § 4 para. 4 of the Salzburg Rescue Act. The payment is made to non-profit, supra-regional rescue organizations under the supervision of the Salzburg state government. The state government ensures, through periodic reporting and information obligations as well as random audits, that the funds are used appropriately. The Salzburg State Audit Office is also responsible for verifying the proper use of funds. Permanent funding opportunities and binding legal bases provide planning security for all involved organizations and contribute to the long-term strengthening of the special rescue services in Salzburg.
