Description

The funding program of the State of Lower Saxony is aimed at counseling centers that work preventively and provide advice in the area of violence against children and adolescents. The grant funding supports non-profit organizations as well as public institutions in implementing measures that offer help, counseling, and information to children, adolescents, and their families in difficult life situations. By providing non-repayable grants for personnel and material expenses, innovative approaches in violence prevention are promoted. The focus is on strengthening socio-pedagogical and psychological services to address crises and sustainably establish preventive structures.

Certain requirements must be met to apply for funding. The funded counseling centers must be based in Lower Saxony and recognized as providers of independent or public youth welfare services. It is required that direct, telephone, and personal socio-pedagogical counseling and crisis interventions are ensured within the facilities. Furthermore, preventive information, education, and counseling should be offered in youth welfare institutions and schools. For the funding of personnel expenses, the employment of a full-time, qualified professional with socio-pedagogical or psychological training is necessary – alternatively, at least 200 hours of voluntary work per year can be demonstrated. A balanced provision of professionals of both genders and networking with local youth welfare providers are further key requirements.

The funding rate is up to 50% of eligible expenses, with a maximum of EUR 5,000 annually available for material costs related to the implementation of preventive services as well as for professional qualifications. Thus, counseling centers can expand their structures and continuously improve the quality of counseling. Applications are submitted using the application form and the associated guideline dated 03.05.2019. The application deadline is December 1 of the preceding year, making timely coordination with local youth welfare providers and a comprehensive presentation of counseling and prevention work essential. This funding program underscores the commitment of the Lower Saxony state authorities to effectively protect children and adolescents from violence and to strengthen sustainable structures in youth welfare through targeted support.
