Description
The Berlin Program for Sustainable Development (BENE) is an innovative grant that specifically promotes sustainable solutions in the areas of climate protection, environmental and nature conservation, as well as energy efficiency using ERDF funds. This funding program is aimed at public institutions, non-profit organizations, and companies based in Berlin that wish to implement their projects in the urban environment. It contributes to actively supporting Berlin’s transformation process towards climate neutrality by 2045. Both decentralized and flexible energy and heating systems as well as climate-appropriate energy renovations are to be promoted in order to advance forward-looking measures.
The focus is on projects that make the greatest possible contribution to improving urban quality of life while simultaneously addressing the ecological challenges of a densely populated metropolis. The program supports, for example, measures for climate and disaster preparedness as well as the preservation and further development of urban green and blue infrastructures. In addition to increasing energy efficiency, approaches that enable sustainable mobility and reduce motorized individual traffic are also supported. Eligible costs include, among others, fees, personnel costs, and material costs, allowing projects to be implemented comprehensively and purposefully.
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, with the latest deadline for submission being June 30, 2027. Applicants must provide, in addition to a detailed project outline, evidence of legal form, business address, and authorized representatives. Funding covers up to 40% of eligible expenses, which can significantly support public bodies, charitable, church-related, and private companies within the scope of their projects. Through the program’s support, not only technical and ecological innovations are promoted, but also important impulses for sustainable urban development are set. The Berlin Program for Sustainable Development thus demonstrates the city’s commitment to shaping a resilient and environmentally friendly future for all citizens and stakeholders on site.
