Berthold Leibinger Future Prize

The award, presented every two years, honors an outstanding milestone in scientific or industrial research related to the application or generation of laser light with €50,000. It targets innovative solutions that significantly advance the state of science and technology in the field of photonics. Contributions from both established research institutions and industrial practice are recognized, provided they demonstrate innovation and relevance for future laser applications. The award strengthens the profile of the German research landscape nationwide and sets impulses for sustainable developments in laser technology.

Nominations may only be submitted by internationally active scientific organizations, professional associations, former jurors, or previous awardees. A nominated project must demonstrably represent a significant advancement in the field of laser light and meet correspondingly high evaluation criteria. Nominations are to be submitted informally via email by November 1, 2026. Self-nominations are excluded. After review and expert consultation, an independent jury will select the laureate in February 2027. The formal award ceremony, including the presentation of the finalists, will take place during the annual award event in June 2027. This award is aimed at all interest groups, associations, and public institutions that wish to promote outstanding research achievements in the field of laser technology. The Berthold Leibinger Stiftung GmbH regards the awarding of the Zukunftspreis as an important contribution to the sustainable strengthening of research and innovation at both national and international levels.
