Description

The Ernst von Siemens Art Foundation continuously supports the creation and scholarly documentation of inventory catalogues for art historically significant collections of supraregional importance in public institutions. Grants cover fees for scholarly editors, digitization costs, as well as expenses for editing and layout, aiming to optimize the indexing, research, and digital accessibility of these valuable materials. Eligible for funding are museums, archives, and other public collections throughout Germany that wish to process their holdings based on well-founded cataloguing concepts. Through this funding, a sustainable contribution is made to the cultural and scientific landscape, strengthening the exchange between research institutions, specialist audiences, and the public.

An initial consultation with Dr. Martin Hoernes is required prior to application; subsequently, the application must be submitted as a single PDF via email. A complete application includes a cover letter, a description of the holdings along with the cataloguing concept, information on the scholarly editors, a timeline, as well as a cost and financing plan including publishing offers. Since applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis, this procedure allows for flexible project planning without fixed deadlines. The Foundation thereby places an emphasis on innovation in digitization and art historical research by creating sustainable catalogues raisonnés and ensuring the scholarly quality of inventory catalogues.
