Funding objective
Support for investments in the construction of new and the expansion of inter-company facilities for the extraction, storage, and supply of water, as well as systems for groundwater lifting and pumping stations for irrigation purposes up to the transfer point to the individual farm irrigation network. Eligible costs also include planning, consulting, and approval expenses.

Description
The funding supports public bodies in North Rhine-Westphalia in investments in inter-company irrigation systems for horticulture and agriculture. Eligible for funding are the construction and expansion of extraction, storage, and supply facilities as well as systems for groundwater lifting and pumping stations up to the transfer point to the individual farm irrigation network. Planning, consulting, and approval costs are also considered. The type of funding provided is a non-repayable grant, which in regions with a negative climatic water balance (long-term average from April to September) covers up to 70% of eligible expenses, but no more than €2.1 million. The measure is primarily aimed at municipalities, municipal associations, as well as water and soil associations that wish to ensure sustainable water supply in agriculture.
A prerequisite for a grant is the submission of a meaningful cost-effectiveness calculation of technical facilities as well as consent to participate in professional evaluation and information provision. Binding periods of five years apply for technical installations and twelve years for structural facilities. Non-eligible are, among others, the construction of administrative buildings, the acquisition of motor vehicles, individual farm measures, and institutional funding. Applications can be submitted continuously to the Chamber of Agriculture of North Rhine-Westphalia, which acts as the EU paying agency and technical contact person and supports the Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in the administration of the funding measure. Interested organizations thus receive tailored financial support to optimize irrigation infrastructure and strengthen rural areas.
