Book Award of the City of Vienna – Viennese Authors in Viennese Publishers

The Book Award of the City of Vienna annually supports six literary new releases from the autumn and spring production cycles within the framework of the initiative “Viennese Authors in Viennese Publishers,” each with 2,500 euros. The aim of these continuously available grants is to strengthen Vienna’s diverse literary scene and to support authors in the publication of prose, poetry, and narrative formats. The awards provide an incentive to increase the visibility of works and to promote publishing partnerships within the Viennese publishing landscape.

Eligible for funding are adult authors who can prove their main residence in Vienna for at least three years and whose book was published during the relevant production period. Applications can be submitted at any time through the Cultural Department of the City of Vienna (MA 7); there is no limitation regarding the duration of funding. With this measure, the City of Vienna pursues the overarching goal of promoting cultural diversity, inclusion, and artistic quality equally, and of creating fair and accessible conditions for literary projects. The regular awarding of the prizes makes an important contribution to the visibility of local authors and supports the sustainable development of Vienna’s publishing and literary landscape.
