Description
The Bülau Competition sets an impulse for visionary urban development and architecture in Hamburg by focusing on students and graduates of creative planning disciplines. Named after the Hamburg architect Theodor Bülau (1800–1861), this one-time award is aimed at master’s students, bachelor’s students from the 5th semester onwards, as well as young graduates (degree completed by 2022 at the latest) in the fields of urban planning, architecture, open space planning, and related courses at German-speaking universities. With a total prize sum of €9,500, the Patriotische Gesellschaft von 1765 aims not only to honor outstanding designs but also to initiate a public discussion about the space and tasks of the Hanseatic city. The call for entries begins on 01.11.2024 and follows clearly defined deadlines.
Participants develop unconventional proposals addressing current thematic areas such as education, science, infrastructure, and urban renewal. The evaluation particularly focuses on the innovation content of the designs as well as their relevance to Hamburg’s urban development. In the context of the 8th competition, the emphasis is on the “Transformation of an urban development area – Eimsbütteler Marktplatz in Hamburg.” In addition to the financial award, the competition offers a platform to bring ideas into dialogue with the professional public and administration. Young experts thus have the opportunity to make their concepts visible and sharpen the profile of their creative work. The exact participation conditions, submission requirements, and deadlines are available from the Patriotische Gesellschaft von 1765 and form the basis for a successful application.
