Description
Within the framework of the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings – Climate-Friendly New Construction (KFN) – Residential Buildings, the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building, together with the KfW Banking Group, provides low-interest loans to realize new construction projects and first-time purchases of climate-friendly residential buildings according to the Efficiency House 40 standard. Eligible applicants include, among others, private individuals, companies, cooperatives, public and non-profit organizations, as well as other investors. Optionally, the Sustainable Building PLUS or PREMIUM quality seal (QNG) can be integrated to demonstrate specific sustainability criteria. The goal is the sustainable improvement of energy efficiency in residential construction and the long-term use of climate-friendly buildings for at least ten years.
Applicants can receive up to €150,000 per residential unit with a funding rate of 100%. Eligible expenses include construction costs, specialist planning and construction supervision services such as life cycle analysis or sustainability certification, as well as own contributions. Land acquisition, refinancing of completed projects, further remunerated asset transfers, and projects excluded by the KfW are not eligible for funding. A prerequisite is the first-time purchase within twelve months after construction acceptance and the involvement of a recognized energy efficiency expert from the federal category of the expert list. For the QNG level, an accredited QNG sustainability consultant as well as a certifying body must also be involved. Applications are submitted continuously through the applicant’s house bank, which forwards the funding application to the KfW.
