Description
The Federal Funding for Industry and Climate Protection (BIK) supports industrial companies and consortia in climate-friendly investment projects as well as application-oriented research, development, and innovation aimed at decarbonizing industrial processes. Measures to reduce hard-to-avoid CO₂ emissions, CO₂ capture, storage (CCS), and utilization (CCU) are funded. The program is divided into three submodules: Module 1 supports investments in production processes according to the General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER), Module 2 supports the application of electrification and hydrogen as well as CCU/CCS according to TCTF, and Module 3 targets research and development projects as well as feasibility studies. Within all subareas, funding rates of 30 to 60 percent of eligible costs are possible, with up to €200 million per company (Module 2) being available. The grants are provided as non-repayable subsidies and aim at rapid implementation, international cooperation, and permanent storage.
Eligible to participate are companies based in Germany with an operational site or branch within the federal territory, who ensure their own contribution and commit to binding the funded investments for at least five years (three years for SMEs). Submission is conducted in two stages via the electronic system easy-Online: initially, a project outline must be submitted to ZUG gGmbH/KEI by 28.02.2026 for Modules 1 and 3, followed by the formal application by 30.06.2026. Evaluation criteria include the efficiency of funds, degree of innovation, carbon cycles, experience with CO₂ capture facilities, and other factors. The program promotes exemplary industrial projects nationwide and significantly contributes to achieving greenhouse gas neutrality of German industry by 2045.
