Funding objective

The Burgenland Species and Habitat Protection Program aims to halt the threatening decline of species and to sustainably secure the existence of native wild plant and animal species as well as the diversity and functionality of their habitats. To this end, measures for the survey, protection, development, maintenance, documentation, and management of habitats and species are supported.

Description

Since December 10, 2013, the Burgenland Species and Habitat Protection Program has continuously supported projects aimed at the sustainable preservation and improvement of the conservation status of endangered wild plant and animal species as well as their habitats throughout Burgenland. Its objective is to counteract the threatening decline of native species and to secure the diversity, functionality, and usability of natural habitats. Funding is provided for measures related to the survey, protection development, maintenance, documentation, and management of habitats and species in accordance with the requirements of the EU Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive. The program is financed by the Burgenland Landscape Conservation Fund and rewards activities that make a long-term contribution to species protection.

Eligible applicants include private individuals, municipalities, regional authorities, interest groups, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions implementing species and habitat protection projects in Burgenland. Funding is granted as a subsidy with a funding rate of up to 100% of the total costs and offers a maximum grant of €100,000 per applicant within three years. Eligible expenses include investment costs, lease, land acquisition, personnel costs, as well as financing and material expenses. Prerequisites for approval include a written submission to the Office of the Burgenland Provincial Government, Department 5 – Main Division III Nature and Environmental Protection, a statement from this department, a detailed schedule and financing plan, as well as proof of public aid received in the past three years. Thanks to the unlimited submission mode, project proposals can be submitted at any time, thereby actively contributing to the protection of regional biodiversity.
