Christian Doppler Laboratories

The Christian Doppler Research Association supports application-oriented basic research at a high level by establishing Christian Doppler Laboratories at Austrian universities and non-university research institutions in close collaboration with corporate partners. With a funding duration of up to 84 months and a maximum amount of €3,150,000 at a funding rate of 60%, the program contributes to the sustainable strengthening of the innovation capacity and competitiveness of domestic research institutions. Applications can be submitted by designated laboratory heads together with partner companies, universities, universities of applied sciences, or other public institutions from March 1, 2024, until December 31, 2026, at the latest. Essential requirements include a formal cooperation with at least one economic partner, institutional embedding in an Austrian research institution, and reputable leadership by a scientifically qualified person.

Interested research units and companies are invited to register in the ePortal of the Christian Doppler Research Association. For the application, the General Funding Conditions, the completed CD Laboratory form, and proof of ePortal registration are required as documents. The role of the laboratory head guarantees scientific freedom, while compact teams of three to twenty people advance central research projects from idea development to practical application. Through strict quality control and a bottom-up concept, innovative solutions are created that promote the transfer of scientific knowledge into the economy and strengthen the international visibility of Austrian research.
