Description
The Press Foundation Baden-Württemberg established the Corona Fund to provide financial relief to freelance journalists in Baden-Württemberg whose earning opportunities had largely collapsed during the Corona pandemic. At a time when social life was severely restricted by contact limitations and event bans, the fund offered a quick and unbureaucratic bridging solution. More than 100,000 euros were awarded to around 70 affected individuals to cushion existential income losses when state aid was insufficient. Designed as a grant, the program significantly contributed to stabilizing the regional media landscape and ensured that quality journalistic work could continue despite the crisis.
Funding was exclusively provided to freelance journalists residing or working in Baden-Württemberg who could demonstrate a significant loss of income due to the pandemic and did not receive sufficient state support. The assessment was primarily based on the extent of existential hardship as well as the amount of lost earnings. As the fund is now closed, no further applications are being accepted. Interested parties can find detailed information on the funding priorities “Commitment to Social Cohesion/Democracy” and “Work & Social Affairs” on the Press Foundation Baden-Württemberg’s website.
