Description

Within the framework of Horizon Europe, the EU supports a transnational research and innovation project aimed at developing innovative biotechnological recycling processes for complex plastic composites. The call promotes educational institutions, companies (especially SMEs and start-ups), founders, as well as non-profit and public institutions in at least three EU member states or associated countries. The objective is to demonstrate approaches for multi-layer and composite materials from the application fields of packaging, construction, energy infrastructure, and mobility up to pilot scale. The focused thematic areas – environmental/nature protection, climate protection, research & innovation, science, digitalization, as well as energy efficiency & climate protection – align with the EU Green Deal and the Circular Economy Strategy. The subprojects cover personnel and material costs, travel and subsistence expenses, as well as equipment costs. Under the Research and Innovation Action, up to €10 million is available at a funding rate of 100%. The project duration is 48 months, with submissions possible until 22.09.2027.

Interested consortia require, according to Horizon Europe, clear work and financial plans, CVs of the participating researchers, as well as proof of technical infrastructure. Transnational cooperation, experience with EU-funded programs, and compliance with Horizon Europe guidelines are mandatory prerequisites. Selection is based on the criteria of innovation content, contribution to the EU Green Deal, economic and ecological impact potential, as well as quality and efficiency of project implementation. Funded are personnel expenses, material costs, subcontractor services, and – if applicable – financial support to third parties. An interdisciplinary approach involving novel microbiology and enzyme technologies as well as recommendations for safety-compliant material assessment are central. The projects make a decisive contribution to defossilization, recycling, and strategic autonomy within the European internal market.
