Description

The funding call by the European Commission within the framework of Horizon Europe is aimed at companies, start-ups, non-profit organizations, public and educational institutions from EU member states and associated countries that want to advance disruptive digital technologies for autonomous spaceflight. Innovation projects in the fields of autonomy, data fusion, mission planning, and modeling are supported, which rapidly increase the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and thereby strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of space transport systems. In particular, SMEs, research institutions, and start-ups are invited to submit cooperative project proposals that combine model-based system development, simulation tools, and digital design as well as validation platforms. With a funding volume of €2–3 million per project, a funding rate of up to 70%, and an application deadline of 02.09.2027, the partners in the Space Partnership approach aim to provide strong impulses for the European space industry. Required submissions include, among others, the HE RIA/IA application form, a financing plan, and a declaration on ownership and control relationships.

The evaluation criteria include the excellence of the research, the anticipated impact, as well as the quality and efficiency of project implementation. To comply with security and participation restrictions according to the Horizon Europe Regulation, the involvement of affiliated companies from non-associated third countries with security-critical dependencies is excluded. Eligible costs include personnel expenses, material costs, travel expenses, hardware, and subcontractor services. The selection of suitable consortium partners and the detailed description of work and milestone plans are crucial to pass the evaluation and enter the funding phase. Projects contribute to ensuring Europe's autonomous and cost-efficient use of space transport capacities by 2030 and to establishing innovative digital enablers in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
