Description

The Helmuth von Glasenapp Foundation supports German India research with targeted subsidies for printing costs of cultural-historical and Indological publications. Eligible for funding are private individuals, educational institutions, as well as non-profit and public organizations throughout Germany. In particular, manuscripts, monographs, or anthologies of smaller writings that address scientifically relevant questions in Indology are considered noteworthy funding priorities. With ongoing submission opportunities and an annual decision process by mid-February, the program is aimed at Indologists, scholars, and early-career researchers who wish to realize a publication and can demonstrate that other sources of funding are not available. The funding is intended to highlight the scientific innovative value of new works and to promote networking within German India research.

Applications must include a complete manuscript, a brief project description, and a plausible justification of the need for funding. Early-career researchers must additionally provide references regarding their qualifications and disclose any concurrent funding applications. The originality and significance of the content for Indological research, as well as the exhaustion of alternative funding options, are decisive. Approved funds must be drawn within three years and are exclusively intended to cover printing costs. After successful publication, a copy must be submitted. This transparent and long-term support offers a valuable opportunity to make cultural-historical findings accessible to a broader specialist audience and thus contributes sustainably to strengthening Indology in Germany.
