DZI Donation Seal

The DZI Donation Seal recognizes non-profit organizations that demonstrate transparent and responsible use of funds. Nationwide, tax-privileged institutions with at least two years of donation activity and annual total revenues exceeding €25,000 can assess their eligibility through an online self-check and subsequently submit an application at any time. As part of the procedure, the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) reviews the organizational structure, statutes, and accounting according to the seven established seal standards. With the successful award, the holders strengthen the trust of donors and supporters in their commitment to social cohesion, democracy, and social concerns.

Application prerequisites include a legally independent or clearly delineated organizational form based in Germany, as well as recognition as a non-profit corporation under §§ 51–68 of the German Fiscal Code (AO). Additionally, the institution must actively collect donations and provide proper accounting for the last two fiscal years. Submission must include an excerpt from the association or commercial register or the foundation approval along with the statutes, the current tax exemption notice from the tax office, the accounting for the two most recent completed fiscal years, as well as promotional and informational materials including the latest annual report. Since applications can be submitted continuously, the DZI Donation Seal offers a flexible opportunity to ensure the quality of fundraising and sustainably strengthen public trust.
