DZI Donation Seal (Application)

For over a century, the DZI Donation Seal has recognized non-profit organizations in Germany that meet the highest standards of transparency and trustworthiness. Interested organizations, foundations, and registered associations based in Germany with proven tax-exempt status can apply for the seal online at any time. Requirements include at least two years of verifiable activity, a current statute, as well as access to financial statements, advertising, and informational materials. Within twelve months, each applicant undergoes a structured process ranging from an initial plausibility check to a final decision made under the four-eyes principle. This ensures that the seal guarantees credible use of funds and underscores commitment to social cohesion and social work.

During the seal procedure, the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) reviews compliance with the seven standards for fund usage as well as the consistency of submitted evidence. Prerequisites for the application are: statute, register excerpt, proof of tax exemption and two years of activity, financial statements for the last two years, and current advertising and informational materials. The evaluation criteria include transparency in administrative expenses, plausibility of impact evidence, and consistent implementation of the DZI audit standards. After a positive recommendation, each organization receives the Donation Seal for one year and may use it effectively for promotional purposes. Interim and full audits ensure quality in subsequent years as well. This award system strengthens donor trust and contributes to the sustainable impact of non-profit projects.
