Description

The German Environmental Foundation has established the ecocrowd funding pool for sustainable projects, a nationwide grant exclusively for non-profit associations, foundations, gGmbHs, and interest groups. Monthly, the donations received are pooled into a common fund, the allocation of which is decided by an engaged community through voting. Eligible are initiatives and non-profit organizations based in Germany whose projects make a demonstrable contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Submissions are accepted continuously, allowing project proposals to be submitted at any time along with proof of contribution to the SDGs and a detailed project description. Subsequently, the foundation presents three selected projects, among which the community chooses their favorites. The project with the most votes receives the full funding amount for the respective month and thereby implements its sustainable objectives in the areas of environmental/nature conservation, climate protection, education for sustainable development, or social cohesion.

Applications require a meaningful project description, information about the organization or initiative, the intended use of funds, proof of SDG contribution, and consent to the privacy policy. The decision on the grant is based solely on the outcome of the community voting, actively involving participants in the selection process. This transparent procedure creates a direct link between funding allocation policy and societal engagement. Interested non-profit entities can find all information on application submission and the necessary documents on the German Environmental Foundation’s platform.
