Description

The funding program of the State of Lower Saxony aims to strengthen intergenerational coexistence and neighborhood living in the regions. Public institutions, particularly municipalities and associations in Lower Saxony, have the opportunity to apply for grants to implement innovative concepts. The focus is on projects such as multigenerational houses as well as self-organized meeting points that offer open services for people of all age groups. Through targeted financial support, measures are to be promoted that strengthen social cohesion in the local environment while simultaneously addressing the challenges of demographic change through diverse, low-threshold offerings.

The funding instrument is aimed at institutions distinguished by their commitment in the fields of health, social affairs, housing, and infrastructure. Not only classic multigenerational houses are supported, but also meeting points that appeal equally to parents and children and bring together partners from various areas of life. Grants are provided in the form of partial funds for personnel and material costs – up to a maximum of 6,000 euros per year, corresponding to 50 percent of eligible expenses. Necessary prerequisites include, among others, an endorsement from the responsible local municipality, barrier-free access to the facilities, and specific opening hours for self-organized meeting points. These conditions ensure sustainable and needs-based integration into the municipal infrastructure, thereby avoiding duplication of structures and enabling the formation of regional synergies.

The program offers public sponsors in Lower Saxony the opportunity to expand existing services or establish new social meeting points that reliably bring together people of different generations. The funding supports not only the development of a comprehensive support network but also places an important emphasis on supra-regional measures for networking comparable institutions. This promotes the exchange of know-how and cooperation with other relevant actors in the social sector. The specialized and administrative institutions committed to this concept thus create sustainable framework conditions for inclusive and socially integrating residential and living space development, from which ultimately all citizens benefit.
