Individual and Overall Funding of Basic Research

Individual and overall funding for basic research continuously provides grants for legal entities and natural persons in Vienna who are dedicated to basic research. The support is based on private law funding contracts and takes into account internal departmental priorities as well as current scientific issues. Applications can be submitted at any time, allowing scientists, research institutions, companies, non-profit organizations, foundations, and public institutions to apply for funding flexibly. The goal is to sustainably strengthen innovative projects in the field of research & innovation as well as science and to contribute to cutting-edge research in Austria.

For the application, only a request for funding approval is required, which is submitted directly to the responsible Ministry of Science. The amount of funding depends on the respective project and the available departmental funds. Through direct financing, basic projects are supported that potentially contribute to successful participation in the EU Framework Programme for Research. Interested researchers and institutions benefit from transparent decision-making processes and an unlimited application period since January 1, 2013. The funding measure is implemented in close coordination with the funders to ensure a high level of scientific excellence and to further strengthen Austria’s position in the international research sector.
